In Memory of Dr. Ameyo Stella Adedavoh, OON

1956 – 2014 | Physician, Patriot, Protector of a Nation

We honour Dr. Ameyo Stella Adadevoh, Consultant Physician and Endocrinologist — a doctor who chose duty over fear.

In July 2014, when Ebola Virus Disease entered Nigeria through “Patient Zero” Patrick Sawyer, Dr. Adadevoh recognized the threat others missed. Despite diplomatic pressure she stood her ground, insisted on quarantine and strict infection control. Her words remain our guide: “For the greater public good, I will not release him.” That single act of courage stopped the virus from spreading beyond Lagos and saved millions of Nigerian lives.

She proved that great lineage is measured not by birth, but by sacrifice. She contracted Ebola while treating her patient and died on 19 August 2014.

The “Adadevoh Principle” — act decisively, ethically, and in the public interest — must guide us. Her legacy lives in every life spared, every outbreak contained, and every Nigerian who puts country before self.

Dr. Ameyo Stella Adadevoh, we salute you. Your courage healed a nation. May your soul rest in perfect peace.
